And the hand of the director feels (it's the same as "Requiem for a Dream" and "The wrestler").
Psychological Thriller, although it is near the limit of the 'horror' psychological, as it remains literally glued to the chair because of anxiety that makes you.
Natalie Portman is nothing short of excellent (well-deserved Oscar). The whole story is seen from his perspective, his fears, his desires, his pains and his passions, and the end is not clear what is true and what is only the fruit of his imagination.
Vincent Cassel is enigmatic: it is not clear what its real purpose, whether to capitalize on its new "Princess" to make money or it really blossom as a dancer.
Even technically speaking it's fantastic: photography and direction are nothing short of perfect, and no one would expect more from that director (if you've seen two films I mentioned earlier you understand what I mean).
Rarely a movie has caused me so many emotions all at once.
I recommend heartily, but only if you are strong enough stomach and liver that: there is a quiet minute in the whole movie, even when there seems to be a bit 'respite from the mental masturbations of the protagonist, but this is the beauty of the film.
Here you can see the trailer.
